Rodney Caston
Rodney Caston (* 1977) co-created Megatokyo and wrote the scripts for about the first two years. He was still listed as "co-creator" for Megatokyo 2, but the later publications in book form no longer bear his name. Caston also wrote from 2003 to 2006 (?) for another web comic he co-created, Überclocked.[1]
He married Ruby Boiko in 2003. In January 2005 they announced they are having a baby.
Reasons for stopping work on Megatokyo
There are people who say that Megatokyo was better before Caston left. Of course a lot has changed, which some may find an improvement, and others not. Others go even further and accuse Fred Gallagher of 'stealing' Megatokyo. This is not made easier by the fact that neither Gallagher nor Caston have discussed the subject openly.
However Gallagher felt he had to summarize what happened on January 15, 2005, and Caston responded the following day.
From what both said, the split up was just a consequence of incompatible ideas how Megatokyo should be. At some point Gallagher started to take over more and more of the writing of the story, and contact between them ceased. Finally Gallagher reached the conclusion that a decision had to be made—either stop Megatokyo there and then, or continue it on his own.
They reached an agreement that involved Gallagher paying in several installments for taking over megatokyo.com, which was Caston's domain. Nothing else is known about this agreement.
According to Gallagher, the two are no longer as good friends as they were before the split up—not unexpected—, but they are still on friendly terms.
